Parent / Caregiver Support Group:
Parenting ADHD Teens

Gather with other caregivers for 6-8 weeks, guided by our family therapy clinician.
Mutual support and practical guidance in handling your frustration, including:

  • Frustrating Interactions

When it feels like you’re having the same argument over and over, your requests are ignored, and no one’s listening

  • Daily Routines

Stuck places you bump into with your teen throughout the day for mundane tasks that shouldn’t feel so hard

  • ADHD Brains

We’ll spend some time learning how ADHD brains are different, and what motivates them and shuts them down

  • Disappointed Expectations

Honest and supportive conversations to fully explore and honor the day-to-day and lifetime expectations that go unmet

  • Your Unmet Needs

How parenting is even harder when you’ve spent a lifetime feeling unheard or having to do it all on your own

  • Staying on Your Feet

It’s so hard not to get knocked over (or lash out yourself) when your teen’s emotions and attitudes wash over you

  • Grief and Shame

When parenting hasn’t gone as you’d hoped (or when you or your teen aren’t who you thought either would be)

  • Functioning in the World

Bring all your fears/concerns and help your teen think creatively about how to function in systems not built for them

improve communication dynamics

discover how you’re stuck in a loop - not failing

understand behavior issues as system symptoms

Teen-Focused Sessions

The Process:

  1. Intake with the parent/caregiver first

  2. Intake with the teen second

  3. Ongoing sessions with teen

  4. Periodic collaborative “strategy and support” sessions with parent/caregiver (every 5-6 sessions with child)

  5. Family sessions as needed, with our support and guidance in having (or just practicing) conversations. We’re there to help take any verbal bullets and keep the conversation on track, while helping you stay on your feet in those times that your teen’s words or attitudes might knock you over

Adult-Focused Sessions

The Process:

  1. Intake with you

  2. Focus on you in sessions, and how parenting your teen is affecting you

  3. Exploring and addressing your own unfulfilled needs from childhood, adolescence, and now

  4. Caring for your own trauma, neurodivergence, etc. that affect your emotions, nervous system, sensory issues, etc., making it so hard not to react or check out

  5. Family sessions occasionally if you would like, to help you have conversations and practice what you’re learning in session with support in the moment
